Two ways to send five packages

Picture a bakery with five wholesale orders going out on the same morning. The obvious approach is five separate deliveries: five couriers, five pickups from the same counter, five prices. The alternative is one multi-stop order · a single courier collects everything once and drives the five drop-offs as one run.

The second version eliminates four redundant pickups and four redundant returns to the neighborhood. That saved driving is real money, which is why a batched run usually prices well below the sum of its parts.

What "optimized" actually means

The order you enter your stops is almost never the best order to drive them. When a multi-stop order is placed, routing intelligence sequences the drop-offs into the most efficient run · so the courier isn't zigzagging across town because stop three was typed before stop two. You enter the addresses; the route plans itself. Each stop still gets its own confirmation: live status, photo, and eSignature, the same as any delivery.

When batching wins · and when it doesn't

• Batching wins when several packages share one pickup point and the drop-offs can tolerate arriving in sequence: catering runs, retail replenishment, wholesale drops, document routes.
• A direct run winswhen one delivery is genuinely urgent. In a batched route someone is always the last stop · if a package can't be that stop, send it alone and batch the rest.
• Mixed days are normal. Many operations run one scheduled batch for the routine orders and dispatch direct couriers for the exceptions.
